RUSSELL A. LOVEJOY
CAMDEN………………Russell Albert Lovejoy, 58, went home with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Sussman House in Rockport after a long battle with diabetes.
Born on February 15, 1959 in Camden, he was the son of Albert Joseph and Ruth Waneta (McGuire) Lovejoy. Russell attended schools in Rockland before moving back to Camden where he was a 1979 graduate of Camden-Rockport High School.
On July 1, 1995, Russell married Carmen M. Stevens formerly of Unity.
Russell loved all kinds of cars and trucks. He attended many stock car races in Maine, Loudon, New Hampshire for a truck race, Vermont, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Known as a walking history book of Unity Raceway, Russell also collected the Unity race programs including those of several other race tracks. A regular at many area car shows, Russell enjoyed showing his “lil red truck”, 1979 Dodge, winning several trophies and later showed his NASCAR truck, 1998 Ford 50th anniversary edition. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
A member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Camden, Rockland, and recent years, Tenants Harbor, Russell had served as a Past Noble Grand, many officers for the 30 PLUS years, Rockland Encampment being a past Patriarch and Scribe. In addition, he served as past Grand Marshall to two Grand Patriarchs of the Grand Encampment; Colonel in the Patriarchs Militant branch being a past Captain and served as the Adjutant and Quartermaster of Lafayette Canton in Rockland and Warren. Russell was also a member of the Megunticook Grange in Camden.
Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Carmen Lovejoy of Camden; stepchildren, Perry Stevens, Daylene Stevens; several step-grandchildren; half-brothers, Fred Carroll and his wife, Sandra of Washington; Howard Carroll and his wife, Janet, half-sister, Marie Martin and her husband, Emmons all of Waldoboro; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At his request, there are no public services to be held. Private interment will be held in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden. Memorial donations may be made to the Maine Diabetes Association, 45 Forest Ave, Portland, ME 04101. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com. Arrangements are with the Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 9 Mountain Street, Camden.
