Obituary for Susan Junge

Susan Junge
SUSAN E. JUNGE
CAMDEN………………Susan Elizabeth Junge died suddenly at her home in Camden on Friday, October 16, 2015.
Susan was born on January 14, 1948, in Hamburg, New York and was raised in Schenectady, NY. She graduated from Linton High School in 1967 and from Antioch College (Yellow Springs, Ohio) in 1971.
Susan was a long-time resident of Placitas, New Mexico, where she raised her daughter Katherine and where she had a successful art career. Her first husband, John D. Morgan, died in 1991. Susan married Richard Ailes in 2000. They lived in Bethesda, Maryland from 1997 to 2002 before moving to midcoast Maine.
Susan Junge had many loves, which she demonstrated with every fiber of her being. She loved the younger generations and was a dedicated art teacher at the Watershed School (Camden, ME), the Ashwood Waldorf School (Rockport, ME) and several other Waldorf schools throughout the country. She loved Nature, particularly being on her great-grandmother’s land in the Adirondacks. Susan was a dedicated student of the 19th century philosopher Rudolf Steiner and being in community with others living and discussing his work. Susan loved Maine and gardening, shoveling snow and building woodstove fires. She co-owned SAGE, a SW American Indian shop in Camden and she loved going to New Mexico each spring to visit American Indian communities and purchase their handcrafted jewelry.
Susan was predeceased by her mother, Julia Brettle Junge, and survived by her daughter Katherine Rachel Morgan (Santa Fe, NM), her husband Richard Ailes (Camden, ME), his daughters Heather Ailes (Albuquerque, NM), Elena Ailes (Chicago, IL.), her father Richard Malcolm Junge, her brother Rick Junge (Burlington, VT), her sister Peg Junge (Rockland, ME) and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The grieving communities of Placitas, NM, and midcoast Maine also survive Susan.
A Celebration of Susan’s Life will be scheduled in the summer 2016 and will be announced. Any donations may be made to The Christian Community in New England, 366 Washington Street, Brookline Village, MA 02445. Condolences may be shared with Susan’s family at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com
