Obituary for Manley "Joe" Bailey Jr.

MANLEY H. BAILEY, JR.
LINCOLNVILLE………….Manley “Joe” Hibbert Bailey, Jr., 90, died at home, on November 7, 2018, at his home in Lincolnville. Born on December 11, 1927 in Oakland, he was the son of Manley H. and Bertha (Manter) Bailey. He was a graduate of Williams High School in Oakland and the University of Maine where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. Joe served in the U.S. Air Force for four years.
His employment included working with his father and brother at a dairy farm in Sidney, completing soil surveys for Scott Paper Company before working 26 years as a soil conservationist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
On June 11, 1966, he married Lucille Tuttle in Farmington, and they moved to Camden in 1967. Joe enjoyed collecting antique tractors and building model airplanes in his spare time. He was a member of the Owls Head Transportation Museum where he participated in annual model shows displaying items from his collection.
Joe was a member of the Chestnut Street Baptist Church in Camden, the Masonic Lodge in Sidney, and Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
Several weeks ago, Joe was excited to tour a Douglas DC-3 with floats in Greenville, a WWII vintage fixed-wing propeller driven aircraft.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Roberta Ackley Bailey and their infant son; his second wife, Lucille Bailey; stepson, Stephen Lidstone; three brothers, Frank, Russell, Dean Bailey; and two sisters, Caro Hall and Cora Cannon. Surviving is his dear friend and companion, Edith Brown of Camden; children, Susan Lidstone and her partner, Ben Smith, Christopher Lidstone and his partner, Bonnie Brooks, all of Rockport; Bradford Bailey of Bangor; Mark Bailey of Brooks; one grandchild, Nathan Allen; and one great-grandchild, Marriet Allen.
Calling hours will be held 3-5PM, November 25, 2018 at the Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain Street, Camden. A Memorial Service followed by a reception will be held at 1PM, Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Chestnut Street Baptist Church, 29 Chestnut Street, Camden with the Rev. Adam Kohlstrom officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to the Chestnut Street Baptist Church. Interment will be held later in Riverside Cemetery in Farmington.
