Obituary for Marjorie Conway

MARJORIE A. CONWAY
VINALHAVEN……………….Marjorie A. Conway, 92, wife of Herbert M. Conway, died on July 25, 2018 at Vinalhaven Eldercare. Born in Vinalhaven on October 12, 1925, she was the daughter of Wendell and Leola (Bradstreet) Smith and was a member of the Class of 1944 at Vinalhaven High School. On January 29, 1947, she married Herbert M. Conway.
For 25 years, Marge worked for the Maine State Ferry Service as a ticket agent. Marge and Herb, who also worked for the ferry service, were known for taking stranded passengers home for the night when there was no other place to stay. Many lasting friendships were developed through their hospitality.
A life-long member of the Union Church, Marge was also active in the Red Hat Society where she once held the office of “Queen Crab”. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star having served as worthy matron there and the Pleasant River Grange. Marge was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she had previously served at president.
Her hobbies included beautiful embroidery designing and making baby quilts for grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family friends. With her friendly outgoing personality, Marge had enjoyed writing stories for The Wind receiving many popular reviews for her interesting work.
The loving and compassionate care to Marge and the family by Jen Desmond, FNP, and the other caregivers at Vinalhaven Eldercare was very comforting and most appreciated.
Surviving is her husband of 71 years, Herbert M. Conway; three children, Cynthia Dyer and her husband, Timothy; Pam Alley and her husband, Steve; Ed Conway and his wife,
Martha; five grandchildren, Leslie Dyer and her partner, Tobin Seawell, Shannon Dyer and his wife, Dawne Dyer, Tina Davidson and her husband, Hank, Raymond Alley, and Natalie Coerper and her husband, Kannyn; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Marge is also survived by her close friends and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clarence and Muriel Conway. Marge was predeceased by a brother, Edward Smith who died during WWII.
Memorial gifts may be made in her memory to the Union Church or to Vinalhaven Eldercare.
There will be a graveside service for Herbert M. Conway and Marjorie Conway at 12 noon, Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Cummings Cemetery in Vinalhaven. Elder Robert Candage will officiate.
