Obituary for Marcia DeGennaro

MARCIA DEGENNARO
BRADENTON, FLORIDA…………………Marcia DeGeneres, 73, died on July 20,2 018 in Sarasota, Florida. She was born on August 11, 1944 in Buffalo, New York and grew up primarily in Lakewood, NY. Marcia graduated from State University of New York at Fredonia with a degree in speech therapy. She moved to Connecticut, where she worked in a pioneering state program for treating children with special needs.
On January 17, 1970, she married Richard DeGennaro in Madison, Connecticut. They moved to Philadelphia in 1970 so Richard could pursue a graduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1976, their daughter Marisa Valerie DeGennaro was born. Marcia was active in groups doing fundraising for the Philadelphia Orchestra.
The DeGennaros moved to Florida in 2004, where they were both very active in organizations supporting the Sarasota Opera, the Sarasota Orchestra and the Sarasota Ballet.
Marcia’s hobby was quilting, and she became very good at it. She was especially fond of making intricate quilts and then giving them away to friends. There is a little bit of her in many of her friends’ homes. She loved animals, especially her cat, and enjoyed doing things with her grandchildren. Marcia will be missed by her family and be interred in Maine so she can be close to those she loved the most.
Surviving is her husband, Richard DeGennaro of Bradenton, Florida; her daughter Marisa Pickford and her husband, Cale of Lincolnville, Maine, and two grandchildren, Thomas and Isabel Pickford.
A service was held on July 31, at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Sarasota, FL.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11AM, Monday, August 6, 2018 at Our Lady of Good Hope. 11 Union Street, Camden, ME. Burial will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery in Lincolnville.
