Ethel “Et” Wyman
ISLESBORO……………….Et Wyman, 87, of Islesboro passed away from end stage dementia on April 13, 2018 at the Boardman Cottage.
Born May 16, 1930 in Boston, MA, Et was was the daughter of Helen Fisher and George Wyman. Following her graduation from Islesboro High School 1948, she went on to UMaine Farmington 1948-49 for credits, then attended Curry College in Milton, MA from 1949-1953 receiving a BS in Early Childhood Education. Her brother, Bruce provided financially for her education. She taught early education at the Gordon School in Providence, RI, and at Perry Kindergarten Normal School in Boston, MA. Et married John E. Hossack in 1962 in NYC, relocating several times due to John’s work living in NY, NJ; Mequon, WI; Mexico City, and New Canaan, CT. She divorced in 1984, went to Katherine Gibbs and worked for an architectural firm learning the business. Becoming interested in home renovations, Et purchased several homes over the years to update and sell. She raised her two children, John A. and Heather W. enjoying family trips to Colorado to ski, Tortola, and spending summers on Islesboro.
Et was proud of her Scottish heritage, loved her kilts, tartans which became a uniform. She enjoyed doing simple gestures for others, gardening, music, pie making, and cuddling her cats.
She is predeceased by her parents, brother, Bruce who was killed while serving in the military, her sister, Dorothy “Dot,” and her ex-husband, John 2014.
Graveside Memorial Service will be September 14, 2018 11:00 am at Islesboro Maple Grove Cemetery.
Et loved Islesboro and had such detailed memories of the beauty, people, events, and changes to the island. It was warming to hear the historical stories told. Therefore, donations can be made to the Islesboro Community Fund.
A Private Reception will follow graveside service. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com. Arrangements are with the Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 9 Mountain Street, Camden.
