Obituary for Faustina Mae Ogier
FAUSTINA M. OGIER
CAMDEN……………….Faustina Mae Ogier, 102, of Camden, died on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at The Homestead in Owls Head. Born in Prospect on April 26, 1915, she was the daughter of Howard S. and Katherine (Bowdoin) Leach. Her mother died when Faustina was 18 months old and she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Jessie and Richard Ashworth and was a graduate of Eastern Maine Conference Seminary (high school) in Bucksport. On April 23, 1948, she married Harold “Buck” F. Ogier in Newport.
Faustina had worked for 21 years as a weaver at the Knox Woolen Mill retiring in 1977. In addition, she had also been employed at Castro & Walsh Tannery, Van Baalen’s in Rockland, Camden Drug, and Haskell & Corthell where she worked in the women’s shop.
A long-time member of the Chestnut Street Baptist Church in Camden, Faustina had been active there in Chadavae, Mission Circle, Pioneer girls, sang in the choir, and served on the flower committee and as a Deaconess.
Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening and making clothing and 50 pairs of winter mittens for Knox County Head Start at the age of 97. Faustina was proud to be independent all of her life.
Faustina had lived at the Megunticook House in Camden where she enjoyed being active and her many friends.
Predeceased by her husband, Harold F. Ogier in 1980, she is survived by several cousins, Theodate “Teddy” Wilcox, Isabelle Milewski, both of Camden, Justina DiTaraunto of Verona Island, Barbara Jackson of Palermo, and Velma Katherine (Ashworth) Figgins of Bradley.
A funeral service was held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at the Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain Street, Camden officiated by Rich Wellman. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden. Condolences may be shared at www.longfuneralhomecamden
