LINCOLNVILLE………………Janet Macleod Richards, 88, a resident of Lincolnville since 1931, died on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the Sussman House in Rockport. Born in Everett, Massachusetts on March 7, 1929, and was the daughter of John William and Florence (Dearborn) Macleod. On September 29, 1946, she married Robert Huse Richards of Camden.
For over 24 years, Janet worked as a school bus driver in Lincolnville with Richards Bus Service.
Janet had many interests in life including snowmobiling, cooking, sewing and camping. Her greatest joy in life was her family.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at the Sussman House for their compassionate care to Janet and the family during her stay there.
Janet was predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Richards in 2008, two brothers, R. Wendell Macleod, Kenneth Macleod, and a sister, Florence “Jill” Philbrook. Surviving is her son, John L. Richards and his wife, Sheryl, daughter, Donna L. Brown and her husband, Stephen, all of Lincolnville; four grandchildren, Kristin Brown of Ocala, FL; John “Jack” Richards, Jr. and his wife, Tammy of Searsmont; Jodi R. Hanson and her partner, Juan Alcala of Rockport; Jamie Brown and his wife, Jennifer of Union; eight great-grandchildren, Nathan and wife Santana Dodd, Coleman Dodd, Desirae Dodd, Ryan Richards, Devin Richards, Myia Hanson, Madison Brown, Hunter Brown; one great-great grandson, Kaiden Dodd; sister, Natalie Thomas of Lincolnville; and many nieces and nephews. Janet is also survived by her special friend, Alice Boody.
In keeping with her wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service. There will be a graveside service at 2PM, November 1, 2017 at the Maplewood Cemetery in Lincolnville. Memorial gifts may be made to the Sussman House, c/o Pen Bay Healthcare Foundation, 6 White Street, Rockland, ME 04841. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com.
