Obituary for Anne Eugley

Anne Eugley
ANNE H. EUGLEY
LINCOLNVILLE………………….Anne Hammersley Eugley, 81, wife of Millard B. Eugley, died on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Waldo County General Hospital after a period of declining health. Born on December 31, 1935 in Ipswich, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Albert and Dorothy (Williams) Hammersley.
Anne attended public schools in Ipswich, Massachusetts and was an accomplished soprano singer and pianist, singing duets with her father, a tenor, at the Ipswich Methodist Church. Following graduation from Ipswich High School in June of 1953 as an honor student, Anne began nursing school at Massachusetts General Hospital. Anne earned her Bachelor’s Degree and worked as a Registered Nurse at Mass General in the Intensive Care and Surgical Units.
While in nursing school in Boston, Anne was set up on a date by her friend and roommate Shirley, with a nice young man that was a roommate to Shirley’s boyfriend, Ken, and as they say, the rest is history. With four girls in one apartment, and four boys in another, and other friends close by, there were lots of weddings and they became a very close group of friends, and still enjoyed keeping in touch and sharing stories to this day.
On March 1, 1958, she married the man of her dreams, Millard Bertrand Eugley, at the Ipswich Methodist Church and moved to Lincolnville.
Anne worked as a Registered Nurse in Dr. Jameson’s office in Camden, and then went to work for the family business, Dean & Eugley’s Garage in Lincolnville Center. Anne and Millard, along with their friend Robert Libby, ran Dean & Eugley until they sold it in 1982.
Anne also worked as the Town Clerk, Tax Collector and Treasurer for the Town of Lincolnville from 1982 to her retirement in 1997.
An avid reader, Anne enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family. What Anne may have lacked in her ability to bake cookies, she more than made up with the ability to can the many items which came out of the large family gardens. She also enjoyed many camping trips with family and friends all over the State of Maine, especially those journeys to Whetstone Falls along the East Branch of the Penobscot River, and traveling to Florida to visit with Fran in Daytona Beach.
Anne was a remarkable woman who never sought out the limelight, but excelled in anything she took on or job she had.
Predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Eugley in 1997 and brother-in-law, Wentworth “Wimpy” Burnham, Anne is survived by her husband, Millard B. Eugley of Lincolnville; sons, Douglas Eugley and his wife, Colleen of Sidney; Michael and his wife, Vicki of Lincolnville; four grandchildren, Kristen Merrill and her husband, Carl of Newport, RI; Andrew Eugley of Camden; Alexandra Levesque and husband Daryn of South Portland, and Alyssa Eugley and her friend, Tyler Bouchard of Sidney; two great-grandchildren, D.J. and Mark Levesque; a sister, Jean Louise Partridge of Ipswich, MA; and a brother-in-law, Francis Burnham of Daytona Beach, Florida.
In keeping with her wishes, there are no public services planned. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Upper Cemetery in Lincolnville. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Camden Area District Nursing Association, P.O. Box 547, Camden, ME 04843 or to PAWS, P.O. Box 707, Rockport, ME 04856.
