Muriel DiGirolamo
CAMDEN………………….On a beautiful sunny afternoon, July 2nd, 2017, Maria Anneliese Muriel DiGirolamo passed away quietly in her bed at Quarry Hill in Camden, with friends and family always near.
Born November 5th, 1930, daughter of German immigrants, she would journey to their homeland to spend her early years at her grandparent’s lilac farm, instilling in her an appreciation for beauty and a lifelong irresistible urge to travel.
At age 6, she would return to be with her parents in Clark, New Jersey. Beginning her school years first with the task of learning English, Muriel would become an accomplished cellist and then turn her attention to art, philosophy, and spirituality.
Long a wanderer and known for her travelers curiosity, Muriel saw the sights of the world and met its people. She would often go on road trips North, South, East, and West, sometimes with her children and later with her grandchildren.
As a young mother, Muriel found her passion and an avenue for self-expression in oil painting and pursued it at Fleisher Art School in Philadelphia. At age 40 she attended Rutgers University to receive a degree in Sociology. In her prolific life as a painter, she was captivated by landscapes, homes and still lifes.
Muriel will join her late husband, Guido and their son, Michael. She is survived by her sister, Irene Abt; sons Mark, Peter and his wife, Nancy, daughter, Michele; their children, and Michael’s son, Jacob.
Forever social and willing to stop and appreciate the simple and the beautiful, Muriel reminds us all that the world is, and always will be, more than we are giving it credit.
She will be dearly missed.

There will be an informal graveside service held at 11AM, Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Seaview Cemetery, Russell Avenue in Rockport.
