HOPE……………….Marion Olive Benson, 85, died on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Appleton on November 8, 1931, she was the daughter of Charles Edson and Marguerite Leola (Bean) Griffin. A 1950 graduate of Appleton High School, she married George Donald Benson in Waltham, Massachusetts on April 13, 1956.
Marion and George lived for many years in Simonton’s Corner in Rockport where they raised their children. A loving wife, mother and homemaker, Marion was always very busy sewing and knitting for her large family. Marion also helped George when he operated a restaurant at their home.
A long-time member of the Chestnut Street Baptist Church in Camden, she was active in the Ladies Mission Circle. Marion was most pleased several years ago when her granddaughter, Shaina, joined the group while she was still in high school.
Marion was predeceased by her son, Roland “Ricky” Benson. Surviving is her husband, George D. Benson, Sr. of Hope; eight children, Kerry Collins (Julie) of Warren; Deb Samuel (Sundar) of NY; Daniel Benson (Gloria) of Rockland; Donald Benson (Kelly) of Lincolnville; Jody Benson, Connie Overlock (Patrick), all of Hope; Patrick Benson (Andrea) of Camden; and George Benson, Jr. (Jodelle) of Rockport; a sister; Beverly Sternloff of OK; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm, Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Chestnut Street Baptist Church, 29 Chestnut Street, Camden with the Rev. Adam Kohlstrom officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Hope Grove Cemetery in Hope. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the Chestnut Street Baptist Church, 29 Chestnut Street, Camden. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com. Arrangements are with the Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 9 Mountain Street, Camden.
