WATERVILLE…………………..Shirley Mildred Norton, 89, widow of Maynard L. Norton, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at her home in Waterville. Born in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia on April 14, 1927, she was the daughter of Fred S. and Mildred (Naugler) Myra. After high school graduation, Shirley moved to Camden and lived with her uncle. In Camden, she was employed at the Knox Woolen Mill where she met her future husband, Maynard L. Norton. They married on July 3, 1953 in Rockport. They moved to Boston while Maynard attended Northeastern University where Shirley worked at the Boston Insurance Company.
In 1958, Shirley and Maynard moved to Newfield and then to Exeter, New Hampshire where their son, Kevin was born.
In 1963, the family moved to Waterville, Maine. On October 9, 2007, Maynard died in an automobile accident.
Surviving is a son, Kevin L. Norton of Waterville and several cousins and their families in Canada.
Friday October 28 there will be an hour of visitation held at 1PM followed by a funeral service at 2PM at the Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain Street, Camden with the Rev. Linda Campbell Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Camden. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com.
