DAVID W. DUNN
LINCOLNVILLE……………David Willis Dunn, 63, of Lincolnville, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Born in Amesbury, Massachusetts on January 6, 1953, he was the son of Wilbur and Miriam (Thompson) Dunn.
David was a kindhearted and thoughtful man. With his quick wit and dry sense of humor, he loved to make those he cared for laugh. His swiftly executed, and often humorous cartoons would appear for special occasions to amuse and delight. His memory was legendary as he was a man true to his word with a keen mind and an adventurous spirit.
An avid music enthusiast, he enjoyed many concerts and music festivals. He attended the University of New Hampshire as a music major and at one of his favorite folk music clubs he met a young woman, Betsy, who would become his first wife. Together they decided to go “back to the land” and moved to Dixmont, Maine. There they had their three daughters, Aurora (pre-deceased), Ladleah, and Darcy. After working the land for a few years they set off on a new adventure of living on Vinalhaven island. It was there at the young age of 30 that Dave became an entrepreneur and started his company D.W. Dunn Construction Inc. Dave took great pride in all the projects he tackled to improve his client's homes. A true artist in many ways, he shared immense talent through his work, from design to finish work and painting.
After moving to the west coast of Florida he and his first wife divorced and Dave returned to Maine. Through mutual friends he met Kim McBreairty. On July 4, 1998 they were married and moved to Lincolnville. Dave was a true partner and husband to Kim and time they spent together was fun and meaningful.
He loved all things motorized, but had a special spot for antique cars. He was a long-time member of the Owl’s Head Transportation museum and volunteered there. He was a wonderful cook and food connoisseur who most of all enjoyed the efforts and creativity of others’ cooking. Dave was exceptionally fond of cats and had adopted many throughout his life, especially his most recent buddy Pete. He loved studying the weather and as the family’s weather man, he would keep everyone updated on what to expect.
David had a great appreciation for boats and the sea. He was a very happy man any time he and Kim were on or near the water, especially the beach. We will always think of him grabbing a cold beer with a lime and smiling out at the twinkling water.
Surviving is his wife of 18 years, Kim Dunn; daughters, Ladleah Dunn and her husband, Shane Laprade, Darcy Dunn, all of Lincolnville; stepchildren, Jessica and Nathan Grass; sister, Amy her husband Gregory Lyons of Merrimac, Massachusetts.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 4-6PM on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain Street, Camden. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
