JEAN A. FRENCH
LINCOLNVILLE…………….Jean Alice (Lamkin) French, of Lincolnville, died peacefully at her home during the early morning hours of Friday, September 9th, 2016. She was 75.
Jean was born on Mother’s Day, May 11, 1941, in Augusta, and was the daughter of Roland and Katherine Lamkin. On June 8, 1963, Jean married the love of her life, Donald French, in a small church in Manchester. Jean’s passion was teaching. She attended Farmington State Teachers College for 3 years then went on to graduate from Ohio State University in 1963. She also earned her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Memphis State University. For 40 years, Jean worked as an elementary teacher, 29 of those years as a 4th grade teacher in Milford, NH.
Jean loved skiing, hiking camping, and reading. She also loved to spend time with her family, either down at the shore at their home in Lincolnville, or attending her grandchildrens’ soccer games.
Jean is survived by her loving husband, Don French; her two children, Michael French of Oakland, CA, Jennifer Keating, and son-In-Law, Morgan Keating, of Milford, NH; 5 grandchildren, Austin Martel, Gavin Martel, Ella Keating, Jordan Keating, and Taylor Keating; sister, Sue Quirion and brother-in-law Frank; nephew Tommy, and niece Wendy; brother Mark Lamkin and sister-in-law Linda; niece Sherrie and her husband Chris, nephew Kyle and his wife Amy, and Shawn and his wife Ashley; as well as many great nieces and nephews, friends and fellow teachers. Jean was predeceased by her father and step-mother, Roland and Katherine Lamkin.
A church funeral was held on September 13, 2016 at the First Congregational Church in Camden followed by burial in French Cemetery in Lincolnville. Memorial gifts may be made in her memory to the Shield’s Mission Fund, c/o First Congregational Church UCC, 55 Elm St., Camden. Condolences may be shared with the French family at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com. Arrangements are with the Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden.
