Elizabeth E. Beveridge-Ames
CAMDEN…….Elizabeth “Betty” Edna Beveridge-Ames, 90, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 26, 2016 at Windward Gardens in Camden.
Born in Glen Cove on October 20, 1925, Betty was the daughter of Ashley M. and Eva P. (Colson) Leach, and was a 1945 graduate of Camden High School. During high school, she worked at the 5 & 10 Store. Later she worked as a nurse at Armstrong’s Maternity Hospital and at the A.B. Collins Dry Cleaners before getting married.
In March 1947, Betty married Norwood R. Beveridge of Camden living in the home they built on Turnpike Drive. In 1952, they moved to Rockport where they lived 36 years as caretakers on the Ambrose Cramer Estate. Betty went to work at Boynton McKay Drugstore in 1969 for several years until 1972, when she went to work for Howard Dearborn managing his two businesses, Oakland Seashore Motel and Oakland Park Bowling Lanes. In 1988, Betty retired after 18 years.
Several years before Betty retired, she and Norwood built a retirement home and yarn shop business on Turnpike Drive in Camden. She operated the yarn shop until ill health forced her to close in 2002.
In 2008, Betty married her high school sweetheart, Richard Ames of Searsmont. They resided in Camden for seven years until Richard passed away in 2015.
Betty was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 50 years, and had been a member of the Megunticook Grange in Camden for over 25 years. All her children agree that she was the best back seat driver there ever was! She was very talented at knitting, crocheting, tatting, and many other crafts and loved to teach others those skills. Well known to all her doctors for her great sense of humor, Betty could always see the lighter side of things.
Predeceased by first husband, Norwood R. Beveridge; second husband, Richard Ames; a sister Clarabelle Thomas; two brothers, Edwin and Melvin Leach, she is survived by her sons, Stephen E. Beveridge and wife, Cheryl, of Camden; Mark E. Beveridge of South Carolina; daughter, Sheila E. Frappier and her husband, Dennis, of Raymond; siblings, Jeanette Anderson, Avis Achorn, Carol Leach, and Bruce Leach; grandchildren, Amy Sivigny and husband, Jim and their children, Kinsley Dean, Gavin & Anika Sivigny of Billings, MT; Clinton B. Beveridge and wife, Michelle, and their children, Hunter and Brayden of Camden; Deedra and husband, Jared Boudreau and their children, Enoch, Lisalyn, Briella and William of Freeport; Barry H. Beveridge and wife, Allyssa, their daughter, Hayden of Syracuse, UT; and daughter Madison Wortlen of Utah; Melissa Summers and husband, Michael, their children, Savannah and Corinne of Riverton, UT; Nathan F. Frappier of Logan, UT and Crystal N. Frappier of Price, UT.
She will be missed by all that loved her.
The funeral service will be held at 2PM, Friday, June 3, 2016 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Old County Road, Glen Cove. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Camden.
