The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Theodore Johanson can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence: There was never a better man than Ted Johanson. I walked up three flights in the mill so often to buy Children's shoes, and then men's work shoes, and saw the same people working in the factory, happy and respected, in the best place to work in Lewiston, Maine. I enjoyed giving Ted a phone call from time to time after he retired to Vinalhaven, and it was always a joy to hear his voice, his cheer, and his desire to make things better for all. Thank you, Ted, and my deep sympathies to Patty and family. The world has lost a great man.

Condolence: Dear Pat, Todd and family

I was most upset to hear of Teds passing, and have spent much time thinking of him since I heard. He was a truly inspiring man to all who came in contact with him. When we first moved to Lewiston/Auburn he was extremely kind and welcoming to my family and I. As I settled into my role at Falcon, the realization grew that I was in the presence of a great man. Not great because of some idealistic personal goal, but great because of his dedication to the enrichment of the lives of those around him, and in particular his enlightened views on employee welfare. In a time when working men & women were being continuously devalued, Ted bought dignity, security, quality of life and a sense of family to all of his employees – including me.

On his retirement, I took his position at the head of the company, but in reality I was lost in his shadow and continued to rely on the powerful identity that he had forged, and the loyalty of the employees to both him and the company. I left Falcon many years ago, but if you go in there today I believe that Teds legacy is still as strong, and it continues to be largely run by people that he trained, who still ask themselves “what would Ted do” each and every day.

I now run a different business, with 100 employees, and work hard to improve their lives, just as he showed me, because I remain and will always be a disciple of Ted Johanson. This is his legacy, and long may it continue to spread for it will make a better world.

My thoughts are with you all. Unfortunately, I will be in England on June 20th but will be there in spirit

Nick

Condolence: I believe Ted actually lived 2 houses down from me in Auburn. But I know that my parents Erle and Ina Down knew Ted and his father Helmer. Dad worked for Eagle Shoe and drove truck between Eagle and Falcon. I remember 4 th of July, watching fireworks and swimming in the salt water pool. I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

Condolence: Dear Family of Ted Johanson:

I went to Jr. High School with Teddy at the Hadley School in Swampscott, MA and remember him well as a vigorous athlete and good student. We had many friends in common. All evidence indicates that he has lived a good and helpful life to his fellow friends and employees and contributed much to the commercial history of commerce in Maine. I regret his passing and wished I could have known him as an adult.

My condolences and Best Wishes for the family, Ed Lovely, Topsham, ME.
