THOMAS F. ZAHN

CAMDEN………………Thomas Frederick Zahn, 58, of Camden, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Born on August 15, 1955 in Worms, Germany, he was the son of Frederick George and Nancy Sue (Scott) Zahn.
Tom grew up in the Kansas City area where he graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in 1973. During his high school years he enjoyed his summers working and harvesting wheat in western Kansas. Tom attended Kansas State University earning a degree from the College of Architecture and Design in 1979. Projects he was most proud of during his career included designing movie theaters for AMC, the Farot and Conseco field houses, numerous hospitals and medical offices throughout the mid-west, police departments and correctional facilities. His most recent position was site project manager for the Wynn Encore in Las Vegas and a luxury hotel in Cairo, Egypt.
When not designing, Tom enjoyed cooking as he was a master chef. He enjoyed traveling to Italy where he attended cooking classes. Tom was an avid pet lover and enjoyed his dogs Jo Bob, Merry, and Corbu.
Tom’s passion was sailing. In 2003, he circumnavigated against the wind sailing around the globe with team “Save The Children” in the BT Global Challenge. In 2010, Tom moved to Camden where he took pleasure sailing his J44, Box of Frogs.
Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Nancy Zahn. He is survived by his beloved sister, Lisa Zahn of Camden; two nieces, Whitney Crooks and Rebecca Crooks of Kansas City, MO; an uncle, Tom and Betty Scott of Kansas City, MO; and several special friends, Colleen Flanagan; and Cally and Jake Dahlstrom whom he thought of as his children.
A Memorial Mass was held on June 18, 2104 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Camden, ME. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, June 23, 2014 from 4-6PM at Jasper’s, 1201 West 103rd Street, Kansas City, MO. Interment will be held in Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City, MO at later date.
