ALVIN L. OXTON

VINALHAVEN……………….Alvin Lee Oxton, 66, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 on Vinalhaven. Born in
Vinalhaven on October 20, 1947 he was the son of Arthur and Geneva (Gray) Oxton. On September 14,
1968, he married Linda Warren. Alvin has worked as a commercial fisherman for many years with Capt.
Ronnie Walker, his two sons, and with his own lobster boat. He enjoyed hunting and playing cards and
was a former vice president and long-time member of the Vinalhaven Rod and Gun Club. Alvin was
very devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Oxton; his stepfather, Henry Gross; his father and mother-in-
law, Bill and Alice Warren; and a brother, Arthur “Pumpkin” Oxton.
Surviving is his mother, Geneva Gross; his wife of 45 years, Linda Warren Oxton; three children, Leslie
Romer and her husband, Mike; Timothy Oxton and his wife, Colette; Lee Oxton; four grandchildren,
Kendra Romer and her boyfriend, Joby Philbrook; Courtney Lewis and her husband, Mike; Ivy Oxton;
Autumn Oxton; three sisters, Frances Philbrook; Bonnie Davis and her husband, Eric; Hazel Philbrook;
two brothers, George Gross; Carl Gross; a sister-in-law, Barbara Philbrook; and several nieces and
nephews.

An hour of visitation will be held from 11am-12 noon followed by a funeral at 12 noon on Saturday,
December 28, 2013 at the Pleasant River Chapel with Elder Robert Candage officiating. Private burial
will be held at Brown’s Head Cemetery.
