Obituary for Betty Fletcher

BETTY M. FLETCHER
CAMDEN……………Betty M. Fletcher, 89, of Camden, Maine, died peacefully surrounded by her family on September 27, 2018 of natural causes at Quarry Hill retirement community. The daughter of Ynema and Eugene Mulholland, Betty was born in New York City on February 26, 1929. Shortly after her birth, she moved with her mother and brother to Mission, Texas and later to Oklahoma City, where she attended Monticello College and the University of Oklahoma. She was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority in college.
In 1950, Betty married her first husband, Max Mason, Jr. While he served in the Korean Conflict, she worked for Eastern Airlines and did some part-time modeling for Sears and Roebuck. Upon her husband’s return, they moved to the Boston area where she raised three children, Max, Cynthia and Eliza. Betty was a wonderful mother to her three children and was always involved in their extracurricular activities including attending baseball and hockey games, carpooling to school dances, piano, tennis, or ballet lessons, or grooming the horses before going off the horse show with the girls. Betty taught all of her children how to ski downhill and skate. She was a wonderful cook and loved to take the family on vacations. Betty was proud of her three children and always wanted the best for them.
In 1980, Betty and her first husband were divorced. In 1985, she married Norman Fletcher. She treasured her time with “Fletch”, particularly their summers together on Vinalhaven Island. Fletch and Betty moved to Camden in 2003.
Strikingly beautiful, Betty loved music, especially Broadway tunes and jazz. A gifted dancer, she loved to sing, and acted in many local theater productions. As an athlete, she loved playing tennis, taking long walks and was a strong swimmer. She also had a passion for adventure. Betty loved hosting parties in her Lincoln and Lexington, Massachusetts’ homes, where her musician friends played and everyone danced. She was always the life of the party. Her friends and family will never forget her smile, her laughter, and feisty sense of humor.
In addition to entertaining, Betty enjoyed coordinating several large events at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln. She was also the administrative assistant for the President of U. Mass. in Boston. Later, she had such fun working part-time as a historical tour guide in the City of Boston.
Betty is survived by her son, Max Mason and his wife, ZeeAnn; her daughter, Cynthia Kava and her husband, Charles; her daughter, Eliza Mason; grandchildren, Lucy, Amanda, Margaret, Nick, and one great-grandson, Ethan. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Please join the family in celebrating her life at 3:30pm, Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill, 30 Community Drive, Camden.
