Obituary for Beatrice Tweedie

Beatrice Tweedie
BEATRICE M. TWEEDIE
BELFAST……………………Beatrice Mary Tweedie, 94, died on November 27, 2017 at Tall Pines in Belfast where she had resided since 2013. Born in Weeksboro, Maine on April 27, 1923, she was the daughter of Guy E. and Delsie (Morton) Williams. She grew up in Thorndike and married James W. Tweedie in New York City in 1949.
Bea and Jim had lived in Massachusetts and moved to Bayside in 1977 where they lived for ten years, before moving to Cedar Street and then Union Street in Belfast. After her husband died she moved to Swanville where her cousin Rodney and Janet took care of her till she went to Tall Pines. Bea enjoyed working on crafts, sewing, knitting and painting with watercolors. She also taught herself to play the organ and was very proud to receive her GED in her seventies.
Bea and Jim had been members of the Belfast United Methodist Church for many years where she was very active with Christmas fairs, and the women’s group, and church suppers. Her peanut butter pies were always asked for at the church suppers. They were instrumental in having the bell erected in the tower which became known to many at the time as the “Tweedie” tower. Bea was known as the Sunshine Lady. She made up Sunshine baskets containing small gifts for each day of the week and gave out to people who were not feeling well and to brighten people’s day at church and in the community. She will be remembered as a very thoughtful, loving and unselfish person who was known to give hugs to people and to tell them that she loved them.
Surviving are her stepchildren, Sally Alegria and her husband, Manuel of Marion, SC; Peggy McMannus of Pawtucket, RI; Judy Rielley and her husband, James of Warren, RI; James Tweedie and his wife Beverly of Smithfield, RI; sister, Helen Furrow of Sydney; sister-in-law, Edna Billington of Rockland; 14 step grandchildren, many greats and great-greats. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and her caregivers, Rodney and Janet Bailey of Swanville and her beloved cat, Thomas. She was predeceased by her husband, James W. Tweedie in 2005, and a sister, Roberta Williams.
A Memorial Service following by a reception will be held at 1PM, Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Belfast United Methodist Church. If desired, memorial gifts may be made to Belfast United Methodist Church, 23 Mill Lane, Belfast, ME 04915. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.longfuneralhomecamden.com. Arrangements are with the Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 9 Mountain Street, Camden.
